The Villa Match Zone

1 Shot, 1 Key Pass & Second Most Touches Takes Villa Star To MotM

|

It had been a long old wait for football fans, but Villans finally got the chance to pack Villa Park once again on Saturday as we welcomed former gaffer Steve Bruce back to the hallowed turf as we looked to pick up our first win of the 2021/22 campaign against Newcastle United.

We didn’t pick up where we finished with Watford, but thankfully we didn’t start the same either and although proper chances were few and far between, we were never really in trouble or looked threatened and in first half stoppage time Danny Ings opened the scoring with a spectacular effort.

Just under 20 minutes into the second period, Mings won us a penalty and Anwar El Ghazi suitably dispatched it to give us a 2-0 lead and short of Emi Martinez having a rush of blood, but seeing their penalty scrubbed out for offside, it was a very comfortable victory with plenty of improvement on show.

With even more improvement to do mind you, but that will come.

Statistics website Whoscored clearly had us as the better side on the day and they gave their star man award for Man of the Match to skipper Tyrone Mings (7.88).

Completing the top five on the day in their eyes were Danny Ings (7.68), John McGinn (7.21), Ezri Konsa (7.14)and Jacob Ramsey (7.03).

Personally, I’d gave given Ashley Young Man of the Match after that but they gave him a score of 6.61 – who gets it for you?
