2 Shots, 3 Key Passes & 97% Pass Accuracy – A Tight Battle For Villa’s MotM After Newcastle Win

|

Monday evening’s Premier League clash against Newcastle United and Steve Bruce turned into a very good night for Aston Villa fans.

After three straight defeats, an improved performance saw us take the win following goals from Conor Hourihane and Anwar El Ghazi, and we kept the clean sheet to further aid confidence. It wasn’t free flowing and it wasn’t a performance without some errors, but it’s still a learning curve and we really should’ve increased the scoreline.

But a win is a win.

Statistics website Whoscored had all eleven players with a seven plus score for our efforts on the evening, but with a goal and an assist on the night, Conor Hourihane was always going to take their star man award and Man of the Match.

Completing the top five best performers from the game were Jack Grealish (8.28), Matt Targett (8.18), Tom Heaton (7.78) and Fred Guilbert (7.46).

The only quibble I have there is I’d have had Jack top for his overall involvement and importance to the game, otherwise I don’t think I can really disagree this time.
