Stiliyan Petrov has told the official site that the goals will come.

As I’ve just been reminded by Vital member Lee Barnet, Villa haven’t scored for five hours in the Premier League (according to MotD2 last night) but the Villa skipper says they’ll keep on going for it:

‘I think the only thing we’ve done wrong is not score a goal. We had the attitude, the concentration, we were looking really good and we just couldn’t put it in the net. We put it in once but unfortunately it was offside. But you have games like that. We’ve got the attitude and we’ve got the players as well. We’ve got forwards and players who can score in any minute of the game and they get frustrated when goals don’t go in.’

Adding, ‘They kept trying and kept trying but unfortunately in the last few league games we haven’t scored. We just need to dig in and keep going. Sometimes you will score three or four, then you pray that in one game you just have one.’

Interesting debate in our forum, if the big money isn’t being splashed (by anyone by the way) in this transfer window and if the quality striker we so need (sadly as do most other teams!) isn’t available, wouldn’t the old link to James Beattie maybe start to make a bit more sense for cover? I know the arguments that this isn’t progress but he does know where the goal is and would get stuck in + is ready and fit to play. What if – as they often do (not a criticism that!) Heskey or JC pick up an injury, all of a sudden we have problems? Or is it better to just go 4-5-1?
