It might have taken a while for Aston Villa to get there, but our first reunion with former head coach Dean Smith and his new Norwich City side almost went perfectly to plan as we took a 2-0 victory at Carrow Road on Tuesday evening.

A very good and solid showing from Villa meant we were more than worthy winners, and with a fantastic individual performance from Academy graduate Jacob Ramsey seeing him open the scoring (and his club account) in the 34th minute, we really should have seen the game out far more easily than we did, as until Carney Chukwuemeka’s introduction and ultimate assist for Ollie Watkins, Norwich seemed the more likely to nick what would’ve been an unfair point.

History says 2-0 though and there are plenty of positives we can take and in some ways there’s quite a battle for Man of the Match after the performances we saw.

Statistics website Whoscored gave Ollie Watkins their star man award following his goal and assist with a score of 8.60 for Man of the Match.

Completing the top five on the day were Jacob Ramsey (8.28), John McGinn (7.81), Matt Targett (7.54) and Tyrone Mings (7.44).

For many Jacob Ramsey walks away with this one, he did for me.
