Some Aston Villa supporters are still fearful of losing Tammy Abraham in January, despite the striker wanting to remain at Villa Park until the end of the season. Wolverhampton Wanderers and Crystal Palace are reportedly keen on his signature and Chelsea have been looking to recall the England u21 international in order to sell him on this month.

Abraham appears committed to the cause, however, with the forward back in training and having been in fine form in recent weeks, but his future remains uncertain while the January transfer window is open. The 21-year-old is key to Villa’s promotion bid this season, scoring 16 goals in 20 Championship games, so the Midlands club can’t afford to lose him this month.

Jonathan Kodjia and Scott Hogan are providing backup to the in-form striker, but the latter hasn’t managed a goal in the Championship this season. Abraham’s departure could derail Villa’s hopes of getting back into the Championship unless Dean Smith could bring in a replacement in time – Brentford’s Neal Maupay has been mentioned as an option.

Even with Abraham in attack, Villa aren’t in the best form. Smith’s men have managed only one win in their last seven in all competitions, so the last thing they need is to lose their top goalscorer with so much of the season remaining.
