No real shock on our poll results as every forum you turn to, every fans phone in your listen to and almost every paper article you read on Villa points to one man.

We asked who do want as the next manager, with the proviso that whilst Ellis remains it doesn’t really matter.

83% said Martin O’Neill.

The bookies odds on favourite Alan Curbishley, along with Bolton Wanderer’s Sam Allardyce and Kevin McDonald (Villa reserve team coach) or Roy Aitken (caretaker boss) all came in with 4%.

Sven Goran Eriksson only 3% and a former Villan like Platt or Cowan’s just 2%.

Reports today once again suggest that Alan Curbishley has no interest in the job and still wants a year off from football. Local papers suggest O’Neil is Doug’s number one target but the Sun claim Villa have no chance of tempting the former Leicester and Celtic man whilst Doug is in charge!

Roy Aitken has spoken of his credentials for the post and Brian Little has said he would be interested in returning.
