To say that Andre Moreira is an unknown quantity is an understatement. Unless you are an avid watcher of Portuguese football you will not have seen the goalkeeper in action.

The 22-year-old has had five loan spells since joining Atletico Madrid four years ago, all of which have been in Portugal at Primeira Liga clubs.

With just 30 games of senior football under his belt, Steve Bruce looks to have made Moreira his first signing under the new ownership. The Mirror reports he will compete with Jed Steer to be the club’s number one next season.

I asked fans whether it is a gamble to recruit the former Portuguese Under 21 international, and a sizeable minority of those polled think his lack of experience could be a risk:

Having been Braga’s second choice goalkeeper, and then only becoming number one after a switch to Belenenses in January, it doesn’t inspire confidence. However, he could prove just as good a loan deal as Sam Johnstone was, we just don’t know at this stage.

Hopefully, he wins over any doubters with some good early season performances.
