Following the competition of our final game on our tour of Germany, Paul Lambert said he was pleased to see us come away undefeated, but he thinks the workout for the lads has been brilliant.
Speaking to the Official Site following the 1-1 draw, the gaffer said.
‘It’s gone according to plan in terms of work ethic and mentality. It’s been a really tough week, when you look at the training and the matches. We have come away undefeated from three hard fixtures. Their seasons are starting next week, ours begins in five weeks time.’
As for the game specifically, he added.
‘In the second half we played very well, it was just we couldn’t see the game through. We looked threatening, there were a lot of good things to take out of the trip, but we know we have a lot of hard work before we play that first game.’
Of course, with the saga of Benteke at the moment, Lambert would’ve been delighted to see the performance and yet another goal from new signing Nicklas Helenius – let’s hope he carries that on into the season.
