Paul Lambert has said he won’t shy away from experienced loans if they can adjust to the group, because the team is the most important thing in his mind.
Speaking to the Birmingham Mail the subject of Robbie Keane came up and loans in general:
‘When January gets closer I’ll start to think about things. Is it something I would go for? I’m not sure because the team is the most important thing for me. If they fit in and have the desire to do it, and want to do it, and fit in with the group then I will look at it. Robbie is a brilliant player and has been over the years. Would I sign experienced players? It’s not something I’ll turn away from.’
Keane was a revelation for us last time round, but I’m still not fond of short term signings that mainly benefit another. If we could get Robbie on a permanent deal I think he’d be an asset to us, and be somebody who the youngsters could learn lots from.
But without taking away his goals from last season, where might Weimann be had he have had those games under his belt?
As Lambert says though:
‘This club is too big to be about a few individuals, it’s about the team.’
And that includes not holding back potential stars.
