A New Keeper Now A Priority?

Thomas Sorensen will miss the season opener against Liverpool due to a hamstring injury.

Not the best start to the season for the Denmark international, there again if reports are to be believed, Villa are in the market for a new shot stopper anyway, so maybe he wouldn’t have started regardless?

Sorensen, who only has a year left on his contract, will be out for 3-4 weeks so a new keeper arriving seems even more likely now. The ex-Arsenal keeper Stuart Taylor will currently be next in line.

Sorensen told avfc.com:

‘This is the first time I have sustained this sort of injury. I placed the ball to take a goal kick and just felt my left hamstring go. I don’t really know what caused it. Perhaps the fact the ball was very hard, that we were playing on synthetic turf, may have contributed.’

Adding: ‘I really feared the worst at first, but the physio is happy with my progress and I may need three to four weeks out. That would almost certainly rule me out of the Liverpool game, but I hope I will be fit around a week after that.’
