On November 6th Aston Villa Football Club embark on what’s the biggest away trip in their modern history.
With the cold Eastern European chill in the air, excited fans will be pouring off the bargain-basement airlines in their hundreds so excited they probably wont feel the bitter chill.
With 3 points already in the bag from last Thursdays defeat of Europe`s regulars Ajax, Villa go into their 2nd game of 5 in the UEFA Group Stage fairly comfortable. What worries me is our hectic itinerary. With the Wigan game, Blackburn Wednesday night, Newcastle on Monday I’m hoping our boys are not suffering from burn out come the 6th November in Prague. Secure 3 points against Prague’s second team and we should qualify quite simply with two games left against FC Ziliner and Hamburg.
Slavia should not to be taken for granted though after reaching the Champions League last season and beating Ajax 3-1 on aggregate. One Ex-Villa player has represented Slavia the recent Patrik Berger whose comments about the Barry saga certainly made him easily forgotten about. Another well known player to the Premiership – Vladimir Smicer has also played for Slavia.
What ever happens on the night, Villa fans will be singing their hearts out. I know I certainly will be. It will be a fun trip in what is one of Europe`s best cities. Good nightlife, great tasting beer, reasonably priced, historical, scenic and picturesque. I can`t wait!
Up the Villa!
