With Aston Villa’s season well underway (finally), the end of September means only one thing – time for a loan round up.
2019/20 saw us make the switch to getting players out at a slightly younger age and we’ve definitely continued that this season with plenty of work still going into our Academy and Under 23 set up to really improve it – both as a source of talent for head coach Dean Smith’s first team, but also for financial reasons and the benefits that would bring to our Financial Fair Play figures.
Jack Clarke was the first out and he headed to Yeovil Town for a season long spell in the National League. They kick off their campaign this month, so we’ll see how he gets on in their midfield as the weeks pass.
Indiana Vassilev was the next out and he went to locals Burton Albion also on a season long loan. Having kicked off their League One campaign, the young striker is starting to build on his six senior substitute showings for us, and he’s appeared twice off the bench for Burton so far.
Young goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo was the next to go and he went north for a season long spell with Scottish Championship side Ayr United. Their campaign also begins this month.
Technically, Mbwana Samatta headed out on loan to Turkish side Fenerbahce, but with an obligated buy clause in place, I won’t give updates for him as he will no doubt have a decent year in the Super Lig.
Before the loan window closes, I’d imagine we’ll see another face or two head out as well, but for September, Vassilev is at least getting decent minutes as he beds in.
