I had a brief chat with Herringthorpe from Vital Rotherham and thought I`d share her thoughts on the visit to Villa Park:

Had a good journey there – after filling the coach up (and waiting for one late comer – there’s always one isn’t there!) we set off around 4.20pm and got the coach parked up around 6.30pm – not bad considering a fifteen minute or so hold up on the motorway.

Had a little look at the stalls around the ground and then thought of the problem of how to get my friend, on crutches, into the Doug Ellis Stand. We walked to the away gates and there was a lady steward who came and asked if she could help. She sorted the scanning of our tickets out and took us to a lift and told us how to get back down at the end of the game and then left. There was me and two friends now in a lift with buttons in front of us that we had no idea which one to press! Well, we decided to start on the top floor hoping we didn’t end up in the executive boxes while the ‘posh’ folk were scoffing down their prawn sarnies! Luckily we got straight to where we wanted to be. The next problem came when we discovered our tickets were way, way up the stand. Another steward came over and said not to worry and sit where we wanted! (Well, we probably would have done anyway!). He also explained that we weren’t allowed to stand up in this stand during the game – not sure how that would have worked if we’d scored to be honest.

I thought the pitch looked superb and we all like the big screens (something I feel we’re missing at the New York) – though soon realised when the game began that the people ‘working’ the screen didn’t show the Millers shots at goal! The seats were OK – a bit narrow and not much leg room.

The game – after the initial couple of minutes I thought the Millers gave as good as they got for twenty minutes or so and might have got an early goal but, once Villa had scored the first goal, (against run of play?) it took us a bit of time to get into our stride again. The other two goals were deserved and all three were well taken. I think Villa’s class and fitness showed in the second half and we looked tired – but the only thing I’m really disappointed in is that we didn’t score in front of our fans – who I thought out-sung the home fans for most of the night.

Wasn’t impressed with Mr Delphs tackle on Frecks who had a couple of minutes earlier took the ball off him. And not impressed with one or two of our fans deciding to fight each other – what that was about no one seems to know.

The stewards pointed us to the lift to go back down and off we went only to get there and find all doors closed and bolted! One was bolted from the inside and I managed to undo it and off we went to our coach – (we were halfway home before I suddenly thought maybe I should have told someone I’d undone the door!?) The Police (I presume) were ages letting us out of the coach park but we got back into Rotherham at 11.45pm.

I think Villa will do well this season – there was some good passing last night and Benteke, of course, is different class and I thought Jores Okore had a very good game.
