Didn’t realise Villa had a demigod, but apparently we do. Not only that, he has a vision.

Super. I had double vision once, boy oh boy what a night that was. I digress…

Gareth Barry, according to the official site, has a Villa Vision.

Now would he have the vision if he was about to leave?

Hopefully not!

He says of Villa, after qualifying for the Inter two bob, that Villa want to get back to where ‘we belong’, in Europe.

He says from the outset the team were after Europe and added, ‘We keep continuing to improve and I’m sure next year, with the help of new players, it will be another push. Everybody’s gone home happy and I think the fans are pleased with the way we’ve gone about our business this season.’

Well, doesn’t sound like a player desperate to leave, hopefully all the transfer talk will be put to bed in the next week or two, I’m sure he’ll have meetings and Villa will try to convince him what an integral part of the set up he is. Then lets hope we get the strong sort of statement we all want to hear from the Villa skipper. ie ‘I’m going nowhere’.

Martin O’Neill has also complimented Barry on the way he has dealt with himself over the last few weeks throughout all the press talk.

‘Gareth might have been affected by the speculation last week, but I thought he was back to his best yesterday (v West Ham) – he did splendidly for us. You wouldn’t have thought he had anything else other than a win on his mind.’

‘We’re going to be sitting down very shortly and discussing Gareth’s future. We won’t let this lie. I’m going to see the chairman in the next couple of days with a bit of luck and the two of us together might be able to persuade him to stay. I say persuade him, but he still has two years left on his contract.’

He also says that Barry is a ‘demigod at Villa Park’. If I knew what it meant, I might agree!

‘He’s been particularly brilliant for us. We want to improve the team and our best chance of doing that is to keep our best players and adding some quality. The rest I can’t really tell you. I wouldn’t want to be saying how confident we are of all these things. It’s a different era we live in. We will see. All I know is he has never expressed one iota of unhappiness in my time at Villa Park. He might not have stayed that long had he been really unhappy before.’

Watch this space I guess!
