Liverpool’s loss, our gain!

The Daily Mirror have an interview with our right-back Luke Young who turned down a move to Anfield in the summer.

Young, who is now back in the team following the baffling exclusion under MON, said:

‘I just felt that I perhaps had more of a chance, if I could get my head down and keep going, of getting in the first team at Aston Villa than I did of getting in at Liverpool. At 31, I didn’t really want to go anywhere and, on matchday, feel I was there as a back-up.’

Adding he felt he would just have been back up at Anfield.

Meanwhile, our left-back Stephen Warnock has made the England squad again and Steve Staunton has told the official site: ‘He was always going to make it at the top level. I was at Coventry when I first came across Stephen and played with him there. He came on loan from Liverpool. He was an aggressive full-back – and still is. That’s a big part of his game. He has tremendous running power too and he’s a good tackler.”

Adding “You could tell in his play that he was a tenacious player – he loved a tackle. He loves to get forward as well. His all-round game is very good. That’s why he was picked for the England squad.’
