Aston Villa youngster Andre Green finally seems to have got himself up and running at Portsmouth.

The 20-year-old headed out to the south coast club back in August as former manager Steve Bruce realised we were overloaded on the wings and only the mad few pointed out the heart of defence may have been more important.

In any event, a number of fans weren’t happy to see him depart but it was better for all concerned that he got out and got game time. Unfortunately for him, after two appearances the decision was taken to treat a long-termish injury that Portsmouth’s manager Kenny Jackett wasn’t aware of and he missed most of September, and then October.

Back to fitness, he scored in his return game against Tottenham Hotspur’s Under 23 side in the EFL Trophy in November, but he wasn’t selected again until December.

This month he’s played three times and scored three goals – making it a return of four in four – and a number of Pompey fans have a simple request of their manager…play him more often.

It has been a poor spell for him, but he finally seems to be showing what he’s capable of even though two of the last four matches have seen him start on the bench and come on late. At least he should return in some decent form though as my notes say he’s only out until January.
