Rumours were abound following the takeover of Aston Villa that Villa Park would at some stage be re-named.

Reports have been made in papers and all have been shot down in flames by Villa.

So, once and for all, will Villa Park be re-named?

‘Absolutely not.’

Who says?

Randy Lerner says!

He also added: ‘Now does that include a reasonable offer for one of the stands? Or are we talking about Villa Park becoming the ‘Dorito Bowl’ or something like that? Let’s say we looked at the North Stand and Nike for example wanted to name that stand. That’s a different proposition to renaming the stadium. We are not changing the name of Villa Park. The name will not be changed.’

All sounds very reasonable doesn’t it?!

  • So there is confirmation that the ground will remain Villa Park and not changed to the Stadium of Fear…..

  • God bless him. Villa Park it should always be. That’s tradition, and there aint a club in the world that could match us for it. We are founding father’s after all.

  • Never mind the sponsors, rename the doug ellis, Dennis Mortimer stand. Or even, the Pepsi Dennis Mortimer stand.

  • I dont mind the stands being re named but the holte does have to stay but maybe the other 3 stands can be re named. Randy Lerner stand, Nike Stand and the JP Fear stand lol

  • So in a few brief sentences Mr Lerner shoots down the notion of selling off the Villa Park name, and refutes suggestions that we are going to cease trading as a football club, and enter the gaming casino business. To top it all he then admits to having funded the purchase of Petrov and Young from his own pocket change. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. What on earth will his critics and detractors have to moan and complain about now?

  • Reading between the lines, I would say the redevelopment of the North Stand is going to happen sooner rather than later, taking the capacity of VP to over 52,000. The funding of this will come from (Nike???) in exchange for the naming rights to the stand for a set period (10 or 20 years???). Bring it on. The lion is on the prowl again and will soon regain his crown as the King of the Jungle.

  • It definitely needs redeveloping voth, wont/cant argue with you on that one. It makes sense that funding would come from a sponsor, whoever that might be, and a 50,000 plus all seater stadium will be something to be very proud of. Just wish I was convinced we could fill it though. Have the missing fans disappeared forever?
