With speculation linking us with Tottenham Hotspur’s Emmanuel Adebayor – pretty much from the moment manager Tim Sherwood walked through the door – following the departure of Christian Benteke to Liverpool the speculation has slightly gone into hyperdrive of late with plenty having their say on how ‘perfect’ a replacement he would be for our now departed Belgian.

ESPN for example continue to report today that talks are at a very advanced stage on a deal that would see him initially join us on loan, but with a view to that becoming a permanent deal down the line.
It appears that might be on the button as far as the usually wild and inaccurate speculation is in the press, as assistant manager Ray Wilkins – above link – was speaking to Talksport ahead of new signing Jordan Ayew’s medical and he confirmed our interest in Adebayor although he did try and be somewhat coy.
When asked on whether the player would be a good addition for us and whether there was a possibility of something happening – he answered.
‘I can only talk for myself, but I’m hoping there is because when Adebayor wants to play he is extremely effective. He knows the Premier League inside out, so he would be a good addition for us.’
Wants to play is the issue for many fans though. He is undoubtedly a quality player and we all know what he can do when he’s up for it – but for many it would be a hugely expensive gamble.
But it might be one we find out about in the next 48 hours apparently.
