As Vital Villa reported last week, (Didier Agathe Has Villa Offer ) 31-year-old Didier Agathe has signed a short term deal taking him up until January and told the official site:

‘Obviously I’m very happy. It’s up to me now to prove myself. It’s only a short-term deal and every game is going to be important as I try to prove myself. The good thing here is that I know the manager. I know that doesn’t mean it’s going to be easy for me, but I will give 100 per cent in every game as I try to secure a long-term deal.’

‘It’s sometimes better when you know the manager, but it means nothing unless I give 100 per cent. I want to take it game by game and play the best I can. That’s why I’m here. I can play in a number of positions on the right – it depends on the game. I hope I can bring something different to the club. We will see. I need to get fit now and play more games. Then, hopefully I will have a chance to play for the first-team.’

Martin O’Neill insists the player isn’t just here to make up the numbers adding:

‘He’s here because I think he has the talent and the hunger to get into our side and do a good job for us. He played brilliantly for a number of years at Celtic, but for whatever reason found himself out of favour. That happens sometimes, but Didier still feels he has plenty to offer.’

‘He has the determination to succeed and still feels he can play at the very highest level. If he can get into the side, he’ll be given every chance. He can play wide-right, right wing-back and did even play at full-back for Celtic in certain games.’

‘He’s naturally fit and he’s very quick. When his confidence is up, then he can run past most people. Now he just has to work on his match fitness and he’ll play again for the reserves tonight.’

‘This is a big chance and a big challenge for Didier. I’ve seen the desire to meet that challenge, so he’s got the deal now with the chance to earn something longer term.’
