Only a rumour but as it is a quiet news day, I thought I’d use it!

Aston Villa are said to be lining up a bid for Manchester United and former Leeds striker Alan Smith.

Now I like the thoughts of this one, we could do with a nasty snarling aggressive sort of player, this man has passion in bucket loads and may well be great for us. He also has the versatility of being able to play in midfield although the experiment by Sir Alex Ferguson to groom Smith as the next Roy Keane didn’t quite pay off I must admit.

Oh, and most importantly, he knows where the goal is. Smith is currently fighting to get fully fit following his horrendous leg break last season.

The rumour pages say we’ll offer around £6million in January. Maybe they could take the Djemba twins back in part exchange? No, didn’t think so.

  • would love to see him at villa, dont think utd would let him leave unless they buy a striker or two in jan.

  • no, difficult to see now they’ve let Van Nistelrooy go, even thought they’ve got Rooney, Saha, Solkjaer and Giggs in great form, they’ll still want cover surely?

  • Not a player I’d be jumping for joy if we signed. Think he’s a nasty little bugger which maybe we do need but I dont think he’s really good enough.

  • I’d be gutted if United let him go, I like him despite his nasty, aggressive style. If we buy Huntelaar or Torres, then it’s sad but possible that he’ll leave.

  • I think that he’d be an outstanding signing, but should United ever decide to offload him, you can bet that there would be some big names in there competing for his signature.

  • Do we have better players than Smiffy when he is fit, but for me that in its self would be the problem, buying another player returning from Injury….. dont we have enough players prone to missing large parts of the season…….

  • Fergie would surely never let him go, even on loan? United have too much going for them this season, they need as many bodies as they can muster.
