Appearing at a Mars Just Play Session alongside other players in the Premiership history books, Marc Albrighton took time out to talk about Paul Lambert and the Villa in general.
The interview was with Sky Sports and obviously they talked about Albie’s 20,000 Premiership strike against Arsenal in December 2011:
‘It’s a fantastic feeling, no one can take that away from me, that is history and I’m really proud of that.’
But it is history, and everyone is looking forward, so after pre season with an injury, Albrighton was delighted to return to action in our unexpected win over Manchester City in the Cup:
‘It was a great game to come back into, everybody had written us off but it’s great for me on a personal level and great for the club. Hopefully we can build on that. We go to every ground hoping we can win. In the dressing room before we said we were capable of beating this side, we knew we had enough in the squad to cause an upset and hopefully we can take that performance into every game we play.’
On Lambert, Albie says he’s been very clear on what he wants and expects from the players, and he thinks our improved performances of late are starting to show that the squad is getting closer to exactly what the manager wants:
‘He knows what he wants and he has told us what he wants. Hard work, people who are prepared to put a shift in and on top of that people who have the ability to be composed and perform well on the pitch. That’s what we need to do to get into the team and hopefully we can have a few good days this season. If the gaffer can improve me as a player then that will be brilliant.’
Albrighton also added that obviously the Lambert plan wouldn’t happen overnight, it was a long term plan to change the club from the top down, so we really should be looking to judge the new manager next season:
‘The club have brought Paul Lambert in, not as a one year thing, he is not going to turn everything round in a year, he is going to have at least a couple of years to get his transitional period out of the way and then we can push on and hopefully we will be back to where we were. I think Paul will do brilliantly for us. Everything is settled and hopefully we can start pushing on up the league. We know we haven’t performed over the last couple of seasons, but we want to put that behind us now. We are going to have down days this season, but hopefully we can have more good days. We’ve just got to get the ship steady again and get back on track after some ups and downs.’
