I`m in two minds whether to bother spending the time doing this! The post match reaction from Alex McLeish following the dismal showing v Bolton in the Carling Cup last night.

For one thing I don`t think the players on the pitch should get away (as many did last season under Houllier) scott free without taking some of the responsibility and the blame, but for another thing, what is the point. We were dismal, that is all we need to hear from manager and players. For the 22 261 who turned up it was simply an insult. I`m not the sort of fan who gets too down with defeats as long as I see the effort and passion.

I saw none last night.

Anyway… McLeish told www.avfc.co.uk he expects the players to use that to “fire the whole team to better things, greater things.” Adding, ‘The team have to bounce back.”

‘It’s a learning experience for the younger lads but the experienced guys have done it so many times before – the likes of Richard Dunne. That’s the reaction I am looking for.”

He says they have to pick themselves back up and there are enough ‘characters` in the dressing room to do that. Didn`t see any character last night I`ll be honest and I`m a blinking optimist.

There are no excuses for our team to have had just one real show on target against a Bolton team who made NINE changes.

He admits the Eagles goal was good (sadly from a mistake by Marc Albrighton who for a player with so much promise looked like a player totally in his shell last night and he`d dozed off in that incident when the ball should have been his and back up to the attack)

‘It certainly put a spring in the step of Bolton. In the second half I thought they deserved their victory.

Ouch, the lack of spirit and endeavour last night stings! QPR this weekend, the players maybe can apologise by bringing us home 3 points. I`m relieved I decided not to pay their rip off money to go to Loftus Road, I hope those that go get the reward the fans so richly deserve.
