With reports last night that Marseille were extremely close to a deal for Jordan Amavi, manager Steve Bruce confirmed in his post Colchester press conference that in effect Aston Villa had agreed a deal for the switch, but it wasn’t yet guaranteed.

On the verge would be the correct phrase for the French left back as although he was pencilled in to travel with us for last night’s League Cup first round clash at the Colchester Community Stadium, he was withdrawn and given permission to travel to France following the club accepted Marseille’s offer.

As covered 30 minutes ago, it was believed he was already back in France last night, but Bruce confirmed he was heading back to France so there are personal terms and a medical (laughs at Sevilla) to be dealt with, but nobody at this stage can say it’s a done deal as Donald Trump might go to war with North Korea as he continues to verbally fart on social media and that could be a hiccup to any deal and life in general.

The Birmingham Mail carried quotes from Bruce’s post game interviews where he explained.

‘It looks as if Amavi is off. That looks as if it`s very close. We pulled him off the bus this morning.’

Bruce intriguing went on to say about Leandro Bacuna, that he too was in a similar position now as we’d received interest from a Championship club.

‘Bacuna is another one, we have interest from a Championship club so we`ll see what develops.’

As the earlier reports suggested, Amavi is likely to be a loan with a view to a buy and my guess after Sevilla’s poor excuse for professionalism would be a combined £6.5-7.5million deal, but there is nothing on Bacuna’s potential worth at this stage.

The guess would be Reading have come back with an increased offer after their bid a few weeks back was rejected.
