Late yesterday evening it was being reported that Marseille and Aston Villa were so close to a deal for Jordan Amavi that the player had actually headed for France.

Sky Sports reported last night that their ‘sources’ understood that Villa had rebuffed Marseille’s initial buy offer for Amavi as it didn’t reach our valuation of the player, so the French club countered with a loan offer including a potential buy clause.

That is apparently acceptable to us and we are said to be in the final stages of agreeing such a deal.

They say Amavi is out in France just awaiting permission to talk to the club to finalise his terms on the deal and undergo a medical.

If he departs this summer, which has always looked likely despite Sevilla acting like complete church bell ends a few weeks back, he would depart having made a total of 39 starting appearances with a further nine showings from the bench.

Hopefully this deal is right, he can get his career back on track after injury and find some real form again.

Sky don’t speculate on the financials of the loan and then buy deal combined but with Sevilla initially agreeing an £8million deal as reported, Marseille would use that to their favour so we’re probably looking at £6.5-7.5million in total would be my guess.
