Villa new boy Ashley Young says he decided to join the mighty Claret and Blues because of the clubs ambitions.

He said, on the official site:

‘With the new training facilities and the investment in the team, there the ambition to be a top-six club and I believe that’s what we can be. I’m very excited about that challenge. I can’t wait and I just want to get out there and start playing for Villa. This club’s got big ambitions and I’d love to play in Europe with Villa. That’s something every player wants to do and that’s where the manager wants us to be and as players we have to match his ambitions.’

And he said he coped with all the speculation by just getting his head down, training and playing adding ‘Now I’m just glad I can put all the speculation behind me and get on with playing football. I’m excited by the challenge here and hopefully the supporters will be excited by what I can bring to the team.’

Now for the plug, the club are encouraging fans to return to Villa Park to see the new signings make their debuts at Villa Park on February 3rd (Saturday at 3pm? What are the fixture people thinking, what is wrong with noon on a Sunday, or 5.15pm, or 11am, or you get the point – either that or by now you’ve stopped reading as you know this is about to go into a rant!)

Tickets for the home clash with West Ham are now on general sale:

  • Seems like all this talk about Young waiting on Spurs coming in for him was just that…talk. Everything the lad has said so far shows he wanted to come to Villa and work under MON. Good for him, I hope he has a long and successful career for us.

  • Ambition. The lost word of the last 25 years has been rediscovered and is being backed up by actions. I never thought I would see the day. How do I go about doing an early renewal of my season ticket in readiness for next season. The lion is once more on the prowl.

  • I thought now would be a good time for a bit of showboating. I have cut and pasted the message I posted on the transfer gossip thread on 9th January. I am still not at liberty to say how I knew about the the deal because I was given the information on the basis that I wouldn’t reveal who told me. Just to recap, we have spent £8 million (£9.65 with add ons) on a London based player. “”Despite the fact there have been over 300 messages on our message boards regarding transfer rumours over the last few days, I have kept my views to myself (for a change). However I have it on fairly strong authority that M’ON has been given the green light to authorise an £8 million transfer. Unfortunately I am not privvy to who it is. I am only told that the player is London based. So presumably this could include Bent, Keane, SWP or Young??”” Remember, you heard it here first! UTV

  • villacross – The guy is only saying his source was right. If its bang on and not guess work any other info from the source will be interesting.

  • Thanx for that gazvilla. That in effect is what I was trying to say in the process of blowing my own trumpet. And just to prove that my source is good, here is the next piece of information. He has told me that Ronaldinho will not be joining the Villa during this transfer window. We will see on January 31st if he is right or not.

  • Very pleased with the transactions that we’ve completed so far this January window, and with RL and MON now in charge of the ship, you get the distinct impression that neither will be prepared to rest on their laurels. In the past we’ve dabbled in the water without pushing the boat out, never taking the next step to help take us onto the next level. Ashley has obviously been sold the whole package as to Randy and Martin’s vision for Aston Villa’s brand new era. Exciting times.

  • Consider yourself headbutted, col8!

This is indeed exciting – and I’m half a world away in California – now if Randy could just do the same thing with his other team…

Sure would be nice to go to a Villa match – a team on the rise is indeed an exciting thing!
