Villa new boy Ashley Young says he decided to join the mighty Claret and Blues because of the clubs ambitions.

He said, on the official site:

‘With the new training facilities and the investment in the team, there the ambition to be a top-six club and I believe that’s what we can be. I’m very excited about that challenge. I can’t wait and I just want to get out there and start playing for Villa. This club’s got big ambitions and I’d love to play in Europe with Villa. That’s something every player wants to do and that’s where the manager wants us to be and as players we have to match his ambitions.’

And he said he coped with all the speculation by just getting his head down, training and playing adding ‘Now I’m just glad I can put all the speculation behind me and get on with playing football. I’m excited by the challenge here and hopefully the supporters will be excited by what I can bring to the team.’

Now for the plug, the club are encouraging fans to return to Villa Park to see the new signings make their debuts at Villa Park on February 3rd (Saturday at 3pm? What are the fixture people thinking, what is wrong with noon on a Sunday, or 5.15pm, or 11am, or you get the point – either that or by now you’ve stopped reading as you know this is about to go into a rant!)
