“An Opportunity I Couldn’t Turn Down” – Loanee Reveals The Reasons Behind Villa Move

|

With the build-up to Monday’s Championship Play-Off Final at Wembley between Aston Villa and Derby County, on loan Bournemouth centre-half Tyrone Mings was one of the players to give the media some juicy quotes after the second half of the season that we have had.

The Birmingham Mail carry the full transcript and the 26-year-old has clearly enjoyed himself at Villa Park as he describes the spell as having helped to ‘refresh’ his career after his recent injury problems.

With plenty of praise for the fans and the players for how he was welcomed to the club, Mings also admitted that head coach Dean Smith making it so clear he was wanted at the club was a huge attraction to begin with but one of the things that did stand out from the interview was the work he had been doing with former England man John Terry on the training pitch, as he certainly had plenty of praise for our former short term skipper.

“Well obviously John Terry is a fantastic centre-back – a centre-back that a lot of people would put in their all-time Premier League XI. I knew that he was part of the coaching staff here, I’d spoken to him previously, before he was even at Villa. Obviously when I knew that there was a chance that I could come here and learn from someone like that, in my position, it was an opportunity that I couldn’t really turn down. We sit down after my games and go through clips and work out on the training pitch together, so he’s been a big help in helping me improve my positioning and decision-making at centre-back, so that’s probably what I’ve learnt.”

Many fans will be pleased with those words and a few will remember the short video clip that came out from training a good few weeks back with Terry putting Mings through his paces so I might as well use it again.
