An Uncertain Return For Milner?

Martin O’Neill has said he doesn’t know what will happen in relation to a possible return for James Milner in January. The Newcastle winger was a late target for O’Neill in the summer and it was only a last minute re-call by the Magpies Chairman Freddy Shepherd that prevented a permanent move for Milner.

With the emergence of Gabriel Agbonlahor it is no longer a certainty that Villa will bid once again for the £4million rated Milner.

O’Neill said: ‘It’s interesting how things progress with regards to the side. For instance, Gabby’s having a wonderful time playing wide. I’m sure at some stage he’ll want to go and play centre-forward, and I think he’ll get an appreciation from playing there. But he’s doing so well that I think he got a call-up to the under-21s because of what he’s done in that position, not because he’s a centre-forward playing wide.’

Adding: ‘Gabby might adjust to playing wide and think ‘I’ve got a chance here’ – so I’m trying to be flexible. I’ve got no set mind. I can accept Juan Pablo Angel won’t be playing out there, but I’m talking about the younger players who still have a degree of flexibility about their play. Gabby played out there in a 4-4-2 at Chelsea and without a problem at all. So (with regards to Milner) I just don’t know what will happen.’
