Vital Villa asked, in a poll suggested by Beefy, which of our youngsters will go onto the greatest things?

Speedy striker Gabriel Agbonlahor got 40% of the vote.

Gary Cahill came a close second with 31%. I believe the youth chaps consider Cahill the best of the bunch and if he can stay injury free, I think we’ll a great deal more of the defender in the years to come.

Luke Moore received 13% of the votes, Liam Ridgewell 6% (I think he is a future Villa captain, that said I think a lot of things, none of which make any sense!), Steven Davis 5% and Isaiah Osbourne 5%.

Our latest poll asks for your predictions on the game tomorrow against Portsmouth. Mystic Mug says 1-0 to the Villa

  • I saw Cahill gradually coming up on the rails, but Gabby managed to beat him. if all those lads in the poll ‘come good’ we will have a great side in a few years.

I have been really impressed with Ridgewell this season too, he is maturing into a very good player, and, as you said elsewhere on this site JF, could be a future skipper.

  • Cahill looks head and shoulders above any other young centre back i have ever seen come through, not only at the Villa but anywhere. I’m sure Terry or Ferdinand weren’t this good at 19.

  • kabeya has been sacked by the villa now for stealing £5,000 from his mate who also flays for villa and he has been jailed for 4 months

  • You know, I am still not convinced about Gabby being a success in the central striking role. He’s made a name for himself wide right, where he’s got space and can use his speed. I’m not convinced, after watching him regularly at youth and reserve team level that he’ll cut it at premiership level against the quality central defenders that are around. Not convinced he’s got enough tricks in his locker.

  • he is only a kid glensider he will get better with more games under his belt. ok he may not have the skills of Christiano Ronaldo but any defender hates pace, he made terry look like a slug at the bridge, walked through liverpool’s centre halves to score a quality goal and would leave us on the seat of our pants too!!!!

  • I agree with Glensider about Gabby – a bit lightweight and inexperienced for a central role; Premiership central defenders tend to not leave huge gaps for him to run into – but attacking full-backs do.
When Cahill was on loan at Burnely he was their player of the year! He is amazingly composed and dominant for such a young player. I think he has the edge over Ridgewell – who, though very good, tends to give away too many fouls. Cahill isn’t nineteen though – he’s almost 21.
Saw Isaiah Osbourne on FootballFirst today and he gave the ball away every time he got it! He is promising, but I don’t understand why o’Neil is playing him so early; personally I’d rather of had Davis in the middle today, along with Barry, Petrov and Agbonlahor in midfield with Bouma left back – what has Bouma done wrong?! It’s not as if Portsmouth play a physical game; there was no need for Osbourne.

  • Like very much the look of young Adam McGurk. Not a well known name amongst your everyday Villan just yet, but he soon will be. Marc Albrighton too is another who looks to have some decent potential.
