Angel Predicts A Good Season

Is Juan Pablo Angel having an argument with himself?

At the end of the season he implied that Villa were going nowhere without major changes, now he is saying that he will return and have a good season and predicts that means a good season for Villa as well.

He said in May: ‘I’m not going to talk about my situation, but I think they (the board) know what to do to change things round. We can’t afford to have another season like this. I’m sure they are already taking care of the situation for next season and, hopefully, there will be some changes.’

Looked like he was suggesting – quite rightly – that David O’Leary should be sacked.

But the official site now quote him as promising: ‘If I have a good season, so will Villa.’

He admits ‘My Villa career so far has been a real rollercoaster. I’ve had some wonderful moments and I’ve had some tough moments. But I think that shows the reality of the club over the last five or six years. We’ve been up and down, up and down. But every time we’ve had a good season, I have performed really well. That makes me feel really, really happy and really comfortable, because when I have played well, I’ve played an important part in the good seasons we’ve had.’

At least we have a player that looks like he wants to stay, makes a refreshing change, although that would no doubt change if a bid came in!

Angel, who hasn’t lived up to the promise he showed with his 23 goal haul from the 2003/4 season due to injuries, lack of form and managers not always selecting him, continued:

‘The first season under David O’Leary has been my best season so far. It was great because we were challenging for Europe and just missed the chance at the very end. We had a great run in the Carling Cup and I was the top scorer – getting over 20 goals – so it was a great achievement for me. I had another great season under John Gregory when we qualified for the InterToto Cup. Like I say, the best seasons we have had over the last five years, I have been the top scorer and that says something.’

Get a playmaker, set the team to pass the ball instead of hoofing it up to the small strikers and he could well go on a scoring spree IF O’Leary selects him, we all know how O’Leary tinkers with what he has, you only have to look at the partnership and interchanging between Angel and Baros in one of the games last season (Everton?) when they looked like they had clicked only for O’Leary to drop Angel for the very next game.
