A report in the Sunday Mercury suggests there is fresh interest in Aston Villa from a new ‘mystery’ consortium. Without any further details, I’m not sure we can make a great deal of the report although it does confirm – the same as other sources have – that only tentative enquires have been made to date and no bids or announcements are due.

Lets just hope that one of these days a link turns into fact and we get the new owners the club deserves.

The report also says that Doug DOES want to sell BUT it is all well and good saying you want to sell, but if you aren’t realistic in your asking price, no sale will ever be achieved, especially when a good few million are needed to re-build our shattered squad.

The report also says under strict London Stock Exchange rules Villa can say very little of the current takeover situation.

Now come on, we all know by now that the Comers are not going to bid, so

a) why don’t they publicly announce that they are no longer interested (and preferably why)?
b) why don’t Villa remove the statement saying we are under due diligence as we are clearly not?

Lets face it, there will be another ‘approach’ just before the next AGM so once again the board don’t have to defend the indefensible but maybe this year someone who has full knowledge of all the PLC rules that are being broken could stand up and ask all the relevant questions?

Why not? Why aren’t people up in arms at the way the club is run? Is the apathy really that ingrained?

Seems, for some reason, to suit the club to be able to point to the stock exchange every time ‘difficult’ questions are made.

With Doug off to Majorca to sun himself and the manager in limbo with no funds, the summer that promised so much looks more likely to become another in a long line of very disappointing breaks.

If there is a consortium looking, they’d do well to contact fans groups and include them, they might be surprised at just what the fans and shareholders could offer. Doug – if he ever took the time to find out, may also be very surprised.

  • It all good and well Doug saying he wants to sell but for 64m?….I also want to sell my old car that i love its a 1996 VW but i want 350 grand for it…he’s as shrewd as they come and a master of disception

  • if niall quinn is reported to have an 80 million consortium put together for sunderland is that to buy the club and pay off its debts??? surely we as a club are worth more than the macums and we supposedly are debt free or as free as a prmiership club can

  • I cannot take any more “takeover rumours” the man will cling on until the very end. and unfortunately the end is not nigh!

  • Yeah i’m with fatloser. The man will pass on to another world while villa chairman coz he just cannot let the club go. Its like his empire. Which he has *****ed up.

  • Lets hope they come in with some cash. Great club, great potential, *****e chairman. ELLIS OUT!

  • I remain of the opinion that Ellis doesnt want to sell, simple as that. Under those circumstances, I take every rumour of a new consortium sniffing around as merely a pointless exercise.

  • Skinner has a good point, Niall Quinn raises £16 miilion to buy Sunderland and £64 millon to pay off their debts and our so called investors are reluctant to pay £64 million for a debt free club that is, on paper worth way more than Sunderland and some wo

  • I wont believe any take over rumours until the day the ink is dried on the contract. Too much spin over the years for me to even get remotely excited everytime we hear a story like this.

  • I agree glensider. If the bloke really wanted out, he would have done so by now. And if you look at the figures, he wants £64m for the club, but he’s also demanding that at least £20m be ploughed in for team strengthening. Then there’s £2m to sack O’leary

  • I think that if Doug manages to use another false takeover story to placate the fans until after the next AGM, then we as a collective of supporters can no longer point the finger at Ellis so furiously. If we allow ourselves to be continually fooled for

  • Out MArket Cap is £45m currently. How’s Ellis going to get his “dream valuation”? blokes a mug. Taking Villa down with him

  • The only thing I want to hear or see ref a take over is the Day DD sells, until then I will beleive nothing

  • Completely agree with all the posts here. Ellis has no intention of selling – never has. How much longer would he have to spend this mythical £64 million anyway? Brace yourselves for Ellis Junior taking over one day because he could be even worse.
