What I can do is follow the example set by Sky Sports and rule one out!
We have been linked with young German international defender Per Mertesacker this week but according to his agent, the Werder Bremen player is going nowhere.
Roman Pletz told skysports:
‘At the moment it is not possible for Per to leave. He is under contract until 2010 and he is a very important player for Werder Bremen. There has been interest in Per since the last World Cup, with English clubs watching him. Aston Villa is a big club, but Per is happy at Bremen and he will stay at Bremen this year.’
So there you go.

I’d say two at the most if we’re lucky. Will we be happy? Depends very much who they are, what positions they’ll fill, and whether we’ve lost any of our current squad members in completing the deal(s).
I dont like wishing the summer away, but i cant wait till sept 1st, no more tabloid gossip, no more chinese whispers and we can all get behind the squad we have, hopefully with another five additions!
