Alec McLeish has revealed that he has been pleased with the progress of young Samir Carruthers and he has a decision to make on whether to include him against QPR.

Those who follow the second string will know that Carruthers in a highly rated winger who has been steadily making a name for himself since he swopped the Arsenal academy for ours a few years back.

His performances this season have impressed Eck and he has been taking part in training with the first team to see how he handled it.

Speaking to the Official Site ahead of tonight’s game against QPR, McLeish said that with a few players suffering niggles, Carruthers was the next natural option to look at.

‘We’ve been adding young kids to the squad over the weeks and a few of them are showing up well in training. The latest one is wee Samir, who’s been impressive. Whether he makes the squad depends on a couple of players with little niggles.’

Be good to see him make the bench, we’ve got to make far better use of our youngsters – better timed substitutions and letting them learn in their natural positions would go a long way.
