As Ash headed off on England duty he had words of praise for new manager Gerard Houllier and again restated his confidence in a new deal being done.

Speaking to SSN Ashley again said he was happy at the club, and that he’d been impressed by the new managerial appointment and he liked the plans that the club have for pushing on in both the league but also in terms of securing some long needed silverware.

‘I am delighted with the manager and the new regime and the way things are going. I’ve got two years left on my contract and I am sure everything will get sorted.’

Houllier himself has already stated his desire to keep Ash at the club, so it seems a happy camp all round.

Sadly the cynic would point out that player contracts mean very little thesedays, but if the club can sort Ash’s contract out sooner rather than later it’ll send a great message to the faithful following our troublesome start to the season and would certainly help keep spirits high.
