James Nursey at The Mirror has a report saying that Manchester United have already rung Aston Villa about the availability of Ashley Young.

However it appears Villa boss Gerard Houllier would only sell the player for massive money.

The report quotes Houllier: : ‘In January the best clubs keep their best players but you never know if someone comes with crazy money. We hope to keep him and he knows that the club’s will is to keep him. We could keep him until the end of his contract – with him we would finish in a better position. In the meantime I don’t think he will leave in January.’

Ah, as I said the other day but couldn`t find out where down South he had moved, Young has moved down to Hertfordshire which goes against what Houllier wants to do having players closer.

Houllier also compliments Young for the work he puts in, ‘Since I have been here, he is one of the players, if not the player, who has run more miles in every game and in training.”

Liverpool, Spurs and Man Utd have all been linked. See other links:

Houllier told the Daily Express “Unless we get crazy money offered for him, then I think Ashley will not leave. We don`t have to sell. The best clubs keep their best players and we hope to keep him. That is the club`s will. I haven`t spoken to Ashley about his future much, but the last time we spoke he said he would look at it at the end of the season. I don`t think he will leave.”

After numerous rumours the last week, Gerard Houllier has apparently confirmed that Steve Sidwell is having a medical with Wet Spam. Quotes from ESPN suggest sidwell will be West Ham’s first signing of the January window although there is no mention or suggestion of the fee involved, however it’s unlikely to be anywhere near the sum paid (assuming there is any fee) given his contract runs out in the summer. ‘Steve is having a medical, he’s at the end of his contract next summer.’ Houllier also adds that he believes Wolves were interested, but Sidwell’s London living makes Wet Spam the obvious choice. Another by Nursey in the The Mirror says that Curtis Davies will not stay at Leicester City permanently and the 25-year-old will be back at Villa Park when his loan deal expires on January 4th. Maybe he`ll get another chance here then? Reports have said Villa are willing to sell the £10m purchase for as little as £2.5m.

Sky Sports say Villa are after 19-year-old French Le Havre midfielder Gueida Fofana.

Boro defender David Wheater is still being linked.

BBC Sport online say that Emile Heskey is happy at Villa but won`t rule out a move back to Leicester City.

Heskey told BBC Radio Leicester: ‘I’m okay where I am but I can’t rule out a return. Leicester are a massive club. People ask me about it and they have some of the best facilities in the East Midlands and one of the best stadiums.’
