Ash has been quoted in a few places today concerning his future at the club, and contrary to rumours it appears all’s fine.

Ash has been the subject of huge media speculation of late, linking him to Chelsea and more recently in every kind of deal possible to Spurs.

But as quoted in the Express and Star, Ash has said:

“I`ve got two and a half years left, and I`m delighted to be playing at the club. I can see myself seeing out the rest of my contract here. Of course I can.”

In quotes carried in the Birmingham Mail, it seems like Ash goes further:

“It`s a big year coming up. I`m a fairly grounded person. I`ve been brought up that way.

“As a player you always want to play in the biggest competitions. I am no different.

“Fingers crossed one day I will be able to play in the Champions League and with the way that things are going at the club hopefully we will break into that top four and get the chance to play there, which is the ambition of the club.”

Now of course it’s impossible to judge whether Ash will honour his contract and maybe move in the final year or afterwards, or even whether or not he’s happy enough to commit even longer. That would presume too much about our growth and performance over the next few years, however it clearly shows he’s happy and settled for now and that’s all that matters.

Nobody knows where we’ll be in 2 years but what we need now is a happy camp and stability.

Changing tact slightly, it also sounds like Ash has no real problems about the competition introduced by the signing of Stewart Downing.

“As long as I am in the team, playing week in, week out, I don`t mind.’

We already know Ash can be useful in a number of positions, so not having the wide left berth as his own domain is hardly going to be a problem in the grand scheme of things.
