So here we are then. We have 18 Cup Finals up to the end of the season to try to get to 2nd.

Here is number 18!

I would say 1st but it tends to upset some of the more sensitive Wolves fans on twitter! (Only joking boys, just enjoy your happy days and stop being like your WBA neighbours, obsessed!)

Anyway, the recent form is in our favour:

But as Bruce said in the press conference today, “It`s all to play for as usual. They are a very, very good side. They`ve been there or there abouts all season.” And as the interviewer points out, they have just fallen out of the play off places so they will be up for it. He admits they play in a certain way and they will be hard to play against and difficult to beat on their patch.

“They are a good side so we`ll have to be at our (wor!) best.”

And it is indeed all to play for. Not much separates any of us, if we ignore the runaway leaders Wolves:

1 Wolves 29 29 65
2 Derby 28 21 53
3 Cardiff 28 15 51
4 Bristol City 29 10 51
5 Aston Villa 28 17 50
6 Fulham 29 14 48
7 Sheff Utd 28 10 46
8 Middlesbro’ 28 11 44

This is another battle royale, another team who are more than capable on their day but Villa really do have to be winning these if 2nd is the aim (or a very outside, very very outside chance of being top!). Bruce has said he doesn`t even study the league at this stage of the season because there is still so far to go. He wanted to be around and abouts where we are at least and now the team have to keep on winning. Simple isn`t it?! An away win v Sheffield United would set us up nicely for what should be a good win at home v Burton. Then… well, it`s the ding dong derby and although they can be great levellers, we do have a very good record v Blues. Get these in the bag, taking nothing for granted, and we could be sitting very pretty.

Dear Aston Villa. Please do not cock this up. Regards. Vital Villa!
