According to Alan Nixon, Aston Villa are eyeing a loan move for Tom Heaton, with the Burnley goalkeeper having struggled for playing time due to the arrival of Joe Hart over the summer. Heaton might be open to a move away from Turf Moor as he’s been on the periphery this season and Villa are said to be leading the chase for his signature.

Heaton has made only three appearances in all competitions for the Clarets this season, sitting on the bench in every Premier League game under Sean Dyche. Hart has featured in all 12 of Burnley’s league games, conceding 25 goals and keeping only three clean sheets, but his place in the side doesn’t appear to be up for grabs.

With Dyche still sticking with the former Manchester City man between the sticks, Heaton might have to consider a temporary solution to ensure he doesn’t waste the season on the bench. A move to Villa would mean a drop down a division but it could also mean regular playing time.

Orjan Nyland, who has been first-choice between the sticks at Villa Park, has struggled for consistency ever since he joined over the summer and could be replaced if Heaton is brought in. There’s been no progress apart from the initial report, however.
