Aston Villa go into this weekend’s tie against Wigan Athletic and fans will get the perfect opportunity to see some of our new lads in action as we take to the Villa Park pitch.

With Steve Bruce holding his pre-match press conference earlier today and covering a wide variety of topics:-

Exclusive: “Height, vision, athleticism, good handling of the ball. And he is very serious. And a good guy.”

Full press conference video at the bottom of the above piece.

When it came to injuries, we still have issues in the front line with Scott Hogan and Keinan Davis still both rated as doubtful. We can welcome back Mile Jedinak though as earlier in the week he was ‘sick’ but has now fully recovered and comes back into Bruce’s thoughts.

With us seeing Rushian Hepburn-Murphy in the opening game against Hull City with him getting a run out from the substitutes bench, that’s likely to happen again you would think as we continue bringing him more into the first team fold and with plenty of summer talk about Bruce and youth, it’s good to see RHM get an almost 15 minute run out.

Plenty of eyebrows were raised at Andre Green being on the bench as well, but again he got over 20 minutes himself, so the early signs are that Bruce is again willing to go young.

The question remains is will he go young and blood our own when there are other options available, or will the go-to be loanees again?

Hopefully, the former as we need to introduce them now whilst there is slightly less pressure on the group and it doesn’t matter how highly rated they are if they don’t get a chance to show that and learn it’ll be another crop lost.

With it known Bruce is still dabbling in the loan market, let’s hope those deals aren’t at their expense.
