Dean Smith was full of praise for Tammy Abraham and believes Aston Villa are “getting the best” from the 21-year-old while also revealing he has a “great attitude”. Abraham’s form for Villa has led to rumours of Chelsea wanting to recall the striker from his loan deal, in addition to calls for him to be called up to the England squad.

Smith said (h/t Express and Star) on his England prospects: “Tammy is playing for the under-21s at the moment. He is and around that. Whether he gets to go and play for the full team or gets a call up, who knows? All he can do is keep working hard and do what he is doing with us.

He has made people sit up and take note by scoring seven goals in four games. At the moment we are getting the best out of him and long may that continue. He is wonderful to work with and has a great attitude and aptitude to learn. He will get better and better.”

Abraham has scored 11 goals in 14 Championship games for Villa this season and has been on fire in recent weeks, bagging seven goals in four outings. He scored four in Villa’s 5-5 draw with Nottingham Forest and bagged the second goal against Middlesbrough in Saturday’s 3-0 win.

His form has left Jonathan Kodjia reduced to a role on the left flank while Scott Hogan can’t start a game for love nor money at the club. The 21-year-old has impressed in the Championship before, scoring 23 goals in 41 league games for Bristol City in 2016/17, but talk of an England call-up might be premature.

Nevertheless, with Abraham boasting eight goals in 23 games for the England u21s sides, he’s proven himself to be highly prolific for club and country which should earn him an opportunity to impress.
