Aston Villa have confirmed that Tammy Abraham has been nominated for the PFA Player of the Month award after impressing in January. The 21-year-old scored five goals in four Championship games last month and finds himself joint-top of the scoring charts with 19 league goals for the season.

Brentford’s Said Benrahma & Rico Henry, Hull City’s Jarrod Bowen, Blackburn Rovers’ David Raya and Norwich City’s Mario Vrancic have also been nominated for the PFA award.

Abraham’s stock rose among Villa fans after he rejected the chance to join Wolverhampton Wanderers in January, and his form didn’t suffer amid all the speculation either. He bagged a brace in a 2-2 with Queens Park Rangers on New Year’s Day, scored one in a 2-2 draw with Hull City (January 19) and grabbed both goals in a 2-1 win over Ipswich Town (January 26).

Villa are currently ninth in the Championship with 43 points from 30 games, coming off the back of only one win from their last six outings. The Midlands outfit have struggled keeping clean sheets, so Abraham’s goals have often spared them from defeat. Dean Smith’s men have been drawing too many games, however, which is why he strengthened the backline in January.

If the Claret and Blues can start shutting more teams out, Abraham could fire them to playoffs before the season comes to a close.
