According to Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider, Callum O’Hare is ‘poised to join’ Carlisle United on loan. The 20-year-old has struggled for playing time at Aston Villa, making only nine appearances since rising through the youth ranks to the fringes of the first-team, and Dean Smith is ‘happy’ to let him go if it means he’ll get more opportunities.

O’Hare has spent the season with the u23s, contributing four goals in 10 Premier League 2 games. He’s been in the senior matchday squad for five Championship outings but hadn’t come off the bench in any game. His only first-team outing came in the FA Cup against Swansea City on January 5, 2019.

The young forward had a number of clubs from League One and League Two interested in his signature, but Carlisle are believed to have won the race. O’Hare will now undergo talks with United before the loan deal is confirmed. Moving to Brunton Park will be a culture shock, but Carlisle are no slouches.

The club are fourth in League 2 with 48 points from 29 games and boast seven wins from their last eight. Only Bury (55) and Lincoln City (50) have scored more goals than Carlisle (47) too, so O’Hare should enjoy playing for such an attacking side.
