Fair do’s everyone has a job to do but can we maintain some standards?

Sometimes you really only need to see the ‘newspaper name’ to judge whether or not it might be a waste of 30 seconds of your life when it comes to an unsubstantiated claim presented as fact.

These days, many don’t even go as far as stating ‘source close to’ when typing football related nonsense. The old line of referencing the ‘sauce’ they dripped down their tie and shirt in the office kitchen when eating a sausage and bacon sandwich remains as true as ever when it comes to most of the inspiration for the guff reported. In fact in recent times, ‘source close to’ has morphed into ‘X understands’ which could literally be the greatest example of oxymoron available.

In any event, we all know the story –

“What Absolute Rubbish”. CEO On The Latest Tabloid Speculation Concerning Aston Villa.

Keith Wyness was kind enough to quickly rubbish it yesterday but Dr Tony Xia has also got in on the act to have his say.

In response to a tweet from the VillaReport covering the ‘so-called story’:

He replied:

It’s no surprise to anybody who has followed the Alan Hutton debate, manager Steve Bruce has been frank and honest about things on a financial front when it comes to offering our born-again left back a new deal owing to Financial Fair Play restrictions in the Championship, but in the days of Donald Trump, never let a good fact get in the way of an inane wibble.

Some would say certain sections of the British press were well ahead of the curve when it comes to fake news…has Cisneros landed that plane yet @themirror? Must have an incredible fuel tank!

If it needed shutting down any further, Xia has certainly done that, so you can expect to see it rehashed in the same outlets probably this time next week – seems to be how it works these days.

Alan Hutton Forum Thread – Cick Here.

Fans were predictable in their response to the original report.

Others rightly focused on how we need to do all we can to get him an extra 12 months.
