Transfer gossip is still very thin on the ground but saw a couple of snippets today in a report by Sami Mokbel in the Daily Star , the bastion of all things football… ahem.

Hey, again, a quiet news day, so I might as well share them!

First off, they reckon that Villa will bid for £2.5million rated, 18-year-old Cardiff City right-back Adam Matthews.

Apparently Arsenal are also interested.

The second part of the report says that Nigel Hokey-Cokey will sit out next season at Villa in order to move on a free in the summer of 2011. Nigel Reo-Coker has been out injured for a while now but no matter really, he rarely featured anyway! The report suggests unless a top Premiership team come in for him, he’ll bide his time and look for a better move the following summer.

MON did describe the injury to NRC – picked up in training – as a devastating blow to the squad, so maybe he’d planned to feature him more in Cup games as part of a much needed rotation? However as we all know, he did rarely feature and when he did play, it was usually out of place so many believed he’d be one of a few fringe players to be sold this summer in order to free up wages and enable MON to wheel and deal in the transfer market.

You can’t really blame the 25-year-old former West Ham Captain doing what is best for him though, he could become even richer if he just waits a season. During the wait would he feature though and would that not lower his stock?

The Star claim Villa will hold ‘crunch’ talks with him in the next month.
