Rebooting

Come the summer, we`re rebooting.

That`s what happens in places where thick wallets don`t own the team. Building a future is messy. Pardon our construction dust.

In 2016-17 we face a strange season. A season with new definitions of success and progress.

We supporters crave a basically young, hungry team, playing good, entertaining high energy football. That`s what we need to be about.

We`d like to win a few games too. We`ve forgotten what that`s like.

Next season is all about 2017-18, and the season after that, and so on.

Lately I hear more and more supporters excited about the notion of watching unjaded youth hustle its way into the Villa starting line up. They want to see if the kids truly are all right. It beats another season of losing game after game with the same tired old faces or more over priced and under talented foreign imports.

Who knows how durable that supporter enthusiasm will be though if we lose four or five of our opening ten championship games?

Of course we`ll need a smattering of experience. Older, wiser heads to guide the youngsters through the trials and tribulations that they will obviously face.

The projections for going predominantly with homegrown youth is a gamble. A stretch. But isn`t stretching and gambling exactly what hope and faith require?

Right now I would suggest, we all have little hope, and even less faith.

We`re often told that we have some quality youngsters. Personally I`m unconvinced about that.

But, if I`m wrong, and If we have, lets give them an opportunity to prove themselves.

Only ten more defeats, sorry games to go chaps, then we can all kick back, enjoy the comings and goings at Brum B6 throughout the summer months, or maybe even head off to New Road, Worcester, to watch how the county cricket club mounts a successful promotion campaign to return to the top flight.

You never know, we might even learn something to aid our very own promotion push that begins on August 6th.

Go Pears, and Up The Villa.
