Mile Jedinak could be on his way out of Aston Villa in January, with South West Sydney reportedly keen on procuring his signature if they’re successful in their bid to become an Australian A-League side. The 34-year-old is said to be keen on a return to his homeland, so a move could ensue when the winter transfer window opens, meaning Dean Smith will need a replacement.

Villa were interested in Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay earlier in the season but talk of a loan move quickly went cold. Leeds United were reportedly keen on his signature too, so the Midlands outfit could have competition, but he wouldn’t be a bad option for the second-half of the season.

Jedinak is no longer commanding a starting place and hasn’t featured for Villa in the Championship since September. The ball-winner has stiff competition from the likes of John McGinn and Birkir Bjarnasson in midfield too. As for McTominay, the Scotland international has also struggled for games at United. He’s racked up only 245 minutes of playing time in the Premier League under Jose Mourinho and may be available on loan in January.

Villa don’t need McTominay if Jedinak spends the remainder of the season at the club. But they should oblige if South West Sydney land their man.
