John Terry has confirmed he will be staying at Villa Park if we are promoted to the Premier League through the playoffs.
Our no.26 currently has a one year contract but the centre-back will trigger a one-year extension if we return to the top flight. He told the Mirror:
“It is in my contract (to stay) if we go up, and fingers crossed and touch wood we do, then I will be staying another year.”
The defender has played pretty well during his time at the club, but there are still a couple of teams to overcome before we can think about what will happen next season.
For a while yesterday it seemed that we may be facing Derby in the semi-final rather than Middlesbrough, but Patrick Bamford’s 97th-minute equaliser against Ipswich means Boro will be our opponents.
The first leg at the Riverside Stadium on Saturday is likely to be a tight affair, and Terry’s return to fitness following injury is timely. He was rested for the 1-0 defeat to Millwall yesterday, but he will be in line to start at the weekend.
