4 days to go…. be quite glad when it is over really, get back down to just concentrating on the football, then again, some of the rumours can be fun! Must admit I thought the gossip would be ramping up a gear but quite the reverse, they are all but gone at the moment, still hoping Villa shock us all with someone who hasn’t even been linked… and no, I don’t mean another Salifou!

The only stories today are really about the arrival of Stephen Warnock who according to the Daily Star will make his debut on Sunday against Fulham and claim that the player was tempted to Villa because he feels they are high on England manager Fabio Capello’s viewing list. Can’t argue with his logic there, that is for sure.

The Guardian say that Manchester City and Republic of Ireland international could be set to move to Villa once he has sorted out ‘outstanding payments’ due from City and say that stopped the player putting pen to paper.

The Daily Mail say Villa are ‘feverishly’ trying to tie up the deal, they claim it is an £8m deal, which is £2million more than the other papers are reporting.

The paper, much like the Guardian, say that he returned to Manchester without signing for Villa due to having to get his severance from Man City sorted after 9 years of being a player for the citizens.

Once that is sorted, he’ll sign a three-year deal at Villa.

O’Neill is quoted after Dunne had a tour of Bodymoor, ‘Richard likes the place. Whatever you say, leaving Manchester City is still a big thing. It’s been part of his life now for quite a considerable time.’

MON apparently also said ‘broken promises’ and clubs putting too high a price on their players has prevented him from replacing Martin Laursen he also appears to be saying they’d got a player lined up so he let Zat Knight go but claims he has learnt that you can’t rely on any ‘assurance’. Well, no, you can’t… ink on paper is when a deal is done!

James Nursey at The Mirror mops up the story saying Dunne just has to sort his ‘golden goodbye’ and he’ll move for £6m with the 29-year-old due to earn £52 000 a week playing for the mighty claret and blue.

MON told James: ‘He has gone back to Manchester to try and get some things resolved up there. Man City has been part of his life now for some considerable time and you give it some thought which I understand.’

A striker, a striker, my kingdom, for a striker! Thought we’d be a bang on certainty to get a striker this summer, hopefully we don’t live to regret not doing so… IF we don’t obviously… still time, tick tock!
