According to the News of The World Manchester City believe they have secured the signings of both Aston Villa midfielder Gareth Barry and Manchester United’s Carlos Tevez. They claim a £42million race has been won beating off Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs to the signing of Barry who will be on £90 000 a week. Hmmm, wasn’t that the story a few weeks ago? Didn’t Barry say he wanted Champions League football? Didn’t MON say he’d consider moves from teams who finished in the top four for Barry suggesting he’d not look at other bids? Didn’t Randy Lerner say he’d give Barry a bumper contract or would be happy for him to run down his contract rather than sell him now?

Let the battle commence…! Apparently Aston Villa and Spurs will fight it out for Hamburg’s German international midfielder Piotr Trochowski. The midfielder isn’t happy that Hamburg have let Martin Jol leave (he’s gone to Ajax). He said: ‘For four years we have only just been sneaking into the UEFA Cup, but I want to improve and win titles so something has got to change. If that does not happen with HSV, then it will have to happen with another club. I don’t feel I have the support of the club’s management. It has got to be clear how HSV are planning with me and I cannot see that yet. Bernd Hoffmann said a few weeks ago that I could leave for a few million and now he is saying that I have to stay.’

Now this might be good… totally made up as it is taken from a gossip site… but good nevertheless. Apparently Villa want to sign CKSA Moscow striker Vagner Love. Chelsea and Stuttgart are also interested. Not sure how the person who wrote this link would know who Chelsea are after, they don’t currently have a manager?! Anyway, they say the 24-year-old will cost about €22m.

The Birmingham Mail are claiming that Birmingham City want Nicky Shorey for £3million. Then again they did claim the other week that Olof Mellberg was on his way back to Villa before MON told the press it was news to him! The former Reading left-back said recently ‘I am a footballer and I want to play football. That is the bottom line. I am not going to go into details. Do I like it at Villa? I like it when I am playing. That is the way it is.’

Porto midfielder Tarik Sektioui says Aston Villa and Spurs are both watching him.

  • sorry to say on city’s behalf, i’d love us too sign barry, but it’s probably unlucky, but tbh i think its much more likely than Villa signing anybody over 7-9mil, without selling, especially not love or trochowski.

  • Its all bollox. Villa wont sell to one of their main rivals. That would be ridiculous unless its for idiotic money (which is possible with city i suppose). Would love to see Love here but theres bound to be other parties interested. Yawn

  • Villan444………i would have to disagree. If clubs make a bid that meets Villa’s valution then i really don’t think they will give a fat rats arse who they sell him to….

  • mmm, nah it is *********. Barry won’t be going to city because it’s not going to be the step up he wants, and Randy Lerner is clearly a man of sense. He’s spoken of how he wants Barry to stay and obviously recognises his talent, so won’t accept an offer from city unless its nearer 20 million probably (who could ignore that?). Unfortunately I don’t think the Wagner Love move will happen either…

  • Jo is going back to City as Everton cant afford the transfer fee according to Moyes. Love might be a great shout as iv said in the past, Moskow will want a big fee. As for the HSV winger, maybe Villa are weighing up their options incase a huge offer is tabled for Young.

  • Not fussed about Wanger Love. How many other flops have we signed on the back of a reasonable performance against us?? As for Barry. He owes us nothing. If he goes , good luck to him. I will always remember the quality of the man. However the only reason he would go, is to a team in the champions league. I may look at him differently should he go elsewhere. So Man Citeh are a no no, as are Spuds (although being a Spuds fan may have some influence). The Arse have still to qualify and could well be in the Europa League with us next season, so I am unsure about them. As it currently stands he wouldn’t be guaranteed a start at Murderpool, or even Chelski or Manure (who are in need of midfielders). As it is a world cup year I don’t think he wants to be a squad palyer when he could be an automatic choice at VP. As for Shorey, we need two left backs next year (infact we need 2 players for every position), so selling him makes no sense. We do need a right back (Micah Richards please) to challenge Luke Young.

  • I have heard rumours (I know only rumours) about the time we were going to play CSKA that Love is keen on going to england at some point and wants to go to a club where he will be the main striker (so not Chelsea, Man U, Liverpool) but who can still push for CL. If this is true then we have a chance of getting him to VP.

  • As John Lennon once said ‘ All you need is Love” – I’m pretty sure he was referring to Vagner Love at the time…

  • well i’m eating my words a little bit, still knowing us, barry will go to liverpool or something annoying…
