According to Sky Sports, Aston Villa are ‘willing to let’ Scott Hogan leave before the January transfer window shuts on Thursday evening. The 26-year-old has struggled for form and playing time since making the move from Brentford in 2017, but he has been granted a temporary move away to get more playing time.
With Tammy Abraham and Jonathan Kodjia ahead of Hogan in the pecking order under Dean Smith, the Republic of Ireland international stands little chance of getting minutes. This season, Hogan has made only seven appearances in all competitions, amassing just 140 minutes of football.
Bristol City and Sheffield United are keen on signing the out-of-favour striker who would surely jump at the chance to move away from Villa Park to get more opportunities. Under Smith, Hogan has been reduced to cameo appearances from the bench and he struggles to make an impact when he is introduced.
Villa have been linked with Charlie Austin, but it’s unknown if they will go all out to sign a replacement for Hogan before Thursday’s deadline. Abraham has missed only one Championship outing this season and is first-choice in attack. Kodjia is his backup. The Claret and Blues won’t have a third striker option if Hogan leaves.
