Several papers have Villa linked with out-of-favour Everton and England striker Andy Johnson. The Daily Star and The Sun both claim we are set to bid around £7m for him with Wigan, Middlesbrough and West Ham also interested.

The Steve Sidwell rumours rumble on with the Daily Mirror saying his move has been delayed as the former Reading midfielder wants a pay off from Chelsea. They claim there is a verbal agreement between the clubs for a £5million transfer but that Sidwell, who moved to Chelsea on a free last year and is paid around £50 000 a week, wants £2million settlement.

The Daily Mail say that we have tabled a £15million bid for Blackburn Rovers midfielder David Bentley and the bid has been rejected. The paper claims we were supposedly in pole position to get the 23-year-old England winger after opening discussions with his advisers, but talks stalled last night.

The papers are also full of the West Ham defender Anton Ferdinand’s link to Aston Villa today. Reports suggest we are about to bid £6million but the Hammers want £8million. Meet in the middle, £7m, there job done! I’m good at this bargaining you know, especially when it isn’t my money! The Mirror quote ‘a source’ close to West Ham saying the club ‘would not be interested in any figure under £8m. They don’t want Anton to go but his agent has not been in looking for a new contract so something might happen.’

If any more rumours show up I’ll update this round up later!
